The RIVER is a sextet brought together by singer/songwriter Lily Kiara, with the wild imagination of hearing songs, improvised music and poetry in one flow. They started with the songs by Lily, on guitar and vocals, poems by English poet Julyen Hamilton, clarinet and saxophone by Michael Moore and trumpet and vocals by Felicity Provan in 2006. Two years later the band was expanded with Michael Vatcher on drums, percussion and Joost Buis on lap steel guitar and trombone. An unlikely combination, yet  blending so naturally when in concert.

The four improvising musicians are each known in the jazz and improvised music scene in Amsterdam and far beyond. They play in numerous ensembles of their own and others. Poet Julyen Hamilton has been writing poems since a very young age and has been bringing dance and poetry together in an original powerful and musical way. Lily has been writing songs since 14 years old and toured 13 states of the USA in 2015 with the International Songwriters Collective.

The RIVER played the mini series The SWIM SESSIONS and recorded the last of these concerts at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam. It was an evening with both intimate and festive music. From this recording the first cd is released 1 December 2015.
